Top 10 college football teams spending millions on recruits

AUSTIN, Texas (BVM) – Many college football teams spend millions of dollars on recruiting athletes every single year. Take a look at the top 10 biggest spenders from the 2022 fiscal year.

Recruiting expenses mostly include hotel rooms, meals for recruits/school personnel on visits, as well as private jets/helicopters/planes/cars used to visit recruits. Compensation for coaches/staff is not included.

The literal price of victory is high in college athletics. For example, the Texas Longhorns spent about $280,000 during QB Arch Manning’s official visit in June 2022. It included a luxury hotel, dinners averaging over $30,000, as well as open-bar parent socials – according to Bleacher Report. The grand gestures worked, and the Longhorns managed to sign one of the most hyped HS QBs of the decade.

The data regarding how much colleges spent on recruiting was compiled by USA TODAY Sports Network in response to open records requests and in partnership with the Knight-Newhouse Data project at Syracuse University. All private institutions, such as Miami and Notre Dame, are excluded under law from revealing said records.
