MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BVM) – Alabama has a storied football tradition at the high school level as proven by the 708 players from 259 Alabama high schools who have played in at least one NFL regular-season game, the 12th-most among the states. While each position on a football team is important, none is more significant than the quarterback. The Heart of Dixie has seen a number of recognizable signal callers come up through the high school ranks including Bart Starr, Ken Stabler and Phillip Rivers among numerous others.
