Mila Holloway will continue family legacy at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (BVM) – Legacy Early College senior point guard Mila Holloway knows what it takes to be a college student-athlete. Her older brother Aden was a top-50 recruit in the Class of 2023 and is preparing for his freshman year with the Auburn Tigers this winter.

Mila credits her time spent with her brother in the driveway in helping her improve her game, though when it comes to who’s the best of the family, she only has one answer.

“He helped me in many ways actually from IQ to confidence, everything, I really look up to him when it comes to basketball,” Holloway said. “But I’ve gotta say [I’m the best]. I’ve got to.”

However, Holloway’s understanding of college athletics in the family goes even further back than that, as her grandfather, Dave Raimey, starred for the Michigan Wolverines in the 1960s. Now, Holloway will look to leave her mark in Ann Arbor.

On Sept. 11, the 5-foot-10 guard committed to her grandfather’s alma mater. She became the third commitment in the Wolverines’ 2024 class, joining 6-foot wing Syla Swords and 6-foot-1 point guard Olivia Olson, who are ranked No. 11 and No. 15 respectively in the ESPNW 100.

“I feel great, I’m ready to get started, really ready for my next steps and trying to get better for this school season,” Holloway said. “I love the coaches. Ever since they found out about me they’ve been supporting me non-stop, especially from the head coach. It really means a lot, I really feel they believe in me up there and that I could come in and make a difference.”

Holloway saw an uptick in recruitment over the past year, receiving offers from the likes of Clemson, NC State and Wake Forest among a host of others. However, Michigan won out, creating a special mother-daughter moment as Holloway’s mother, Robin Raimey, is an alum of the school.

“She was super excited,” Holloway said. “Not only because she went there, but because it’s a great school. She was excited for sure.”

Holloway has proven to be a strong leader on the court, helping two different programs to successful campaigns over the past two seasons. As a sophomore in 2021, Holloway was the point guard for the 24-6 Chambers Cougars and helped the team secure its third consecutive state title by averaging 13.6 points, 3.4 steals, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. This season helped Holloway further establish her love for the game.

“That was a great year, it was really the year I locked myself into basketball a little bit more,” Holloway said. “My teammates were great too, they definitely pushed me and helped me with my confidence.”

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Holloway had to leave Chambers but found a home with Legacy Early. This paid off well for the guard as she had a breakout junior year where she averaged 11.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals while helping the Lions go 27-7 against a nationally competitive schedule featuring games with the likes of AZ Compass Prep, IMG Academy and Montverde Academy.

“I just do what I can to help the team win,” Holloway said. “My ball handling [is my best asset]. It helps me see the floor, find the best read and take what I’m given.”

Confidence is another thing Holloway will bring with her to Ann Arbor. Though she is still a year away from officially joining the Wolverines, she has high expectations for her time with the team.

“I think I’ll fit in great, we’ll be great next year. We all bring different things to the floor, none of us play the exact same [way] so we will bring the best out of each other. I think it’ll be great,” Holloway said. “[Expect] a championship, for sure.”
