College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 4
3. No. 15 Ole Miss vs. No. 13 Alabama – Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
It’s hard to put this kind of a matchup at No. 3, but it speaks to how good the slate of games is this weekend. The rivalry between Ole Miss and Alabama goes all the way back to 1894, and the two teams have played annually since 1992. With a 54-10-2 record, the Crimson Tide have absolutely dominated the series, as the Rebels last won in 2015, and have secured just four victories against Alabama in the past 35 years.
However, Ole Miss comes into Saturday’s matchup with perhaps its best chance in recent memory to score a win over Alabama. Lane Kiffin’s guys are ranked No. 15 in the country with three early-season wins, including a victory over a ranked Tulane team in Week 2. The Rebels feature the 11th-best offense in college football, in large part thanks to quarterback Jaxson Dart who has thrown for over 850 yards and also leads the team in rushing.
Meanwhile, Alabama is still searching for its quarterback, and will turn back to Jalen Milroe for this one after an ugly 17-3 win at South Florida last weekend which followed a Week 2 loss at Texas. Currently, the Crimson Tide rank just 82nd in total offense among FBS teams, and the defense has also seen its share of struggles. Yet, a win against a ranked conference opponent would go a long way, while an upset on the road by Ole Miss could have the Rebels near the top 10 in next week’s rankings.
