Ranking the top 10 games of the Red River Rivalry

3. 1958: No. 16 Texas 15, No. 2 Oklahoma 14

One of the closest games ever in the series is also one of the most significant, as 1958 began a string of dominance for Texas over Oklahoma during the Darrell Royal era where the Longhorns would win 12 of 13 games against the Sooners through 1970. The Sooners entered the game in an era of dominance of their own under Bud Wilkinson, who Royal played for a decade prior in Norman. Like many games in this series, this one came down to the final minutes, as Texas led 8-6 before Oklahoma returned a fumble to take the lead. However, Texas would drive to recapture the lead with a touchdown from Bob Lackey to Bob Bryant, and intercepted a Sooners pass in the final minute to preserve the victory and change the tenor of the rivalry.
