TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (BVM) – Dubbed the “Third Saturday in October,” the historic football rivalry between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Volunteers is one that dates back to 1901, with the two programs meeting up a total of 104 times.
Currently, Alabama leads the all-time series with a record of 58-39-7. A big reason for that is the success the Crimson Tide have seen recently against the Vols during the Nick Saban era, as following a relatively dominant stretch by Tennessee in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Alabama has gone on to win 15 of the last 16 games in the rivalry.
The lone blemish came last year in the first meeting in over three decades in which both teams came into the game undefeated. In a close back-and-forth battle, No. 6 Tennessee came out on top, 52-49, earning a signature win for head coach Josh Heupel that has been celebrated in Knoxville throughout the past year.
The 2022 meeting is certainly one of the best in this rivalry, but there have been many other notable contests between the two SEC programs over the years. Here are the 10 best football games between Alabama and Tennessee in the first 122 years of their rivalry.
