Top 10 Alabama vs. Tennessee football games of all time
9. 1966: No. 3 Alabama 11, Tennessee 10
Ken Stabler would go on to have a successful NFL career with the Raiders, but prior to that, he was a star quarterback at Alabama, and one of his most infamous games came in the Crimson Tide’s 1966 matchup with Tennessee. Coming off of back-to-back national championships, Alabama again started the 1966 season strong, but was struggling against the Vols, falling behind 10-0. Before long, Stabler led a rally that included a touchdown run from the quarterback and a completed pass for a two-point conversion. Stabler later got the Crimson Tide in position for the game-winning field goal which Steve Davis nailed from 19 yards out. Tennessee had a shot at a 17-yard field goal to win the game late, but after it appeared the kick had gone over the goalpost, it was ruled no good, maintaining Alabama’s perfect season.
