10 best NBA players to ever come out of the Philadelphia area

4. Earl Monroe, SG

As the game transitioned to show that the backcourt was just as fruitful with pouring in points as towering centers, “Earl the Pearl” entertained crowds with his one-on-one abilities.

Monroe, who attended John Bartram High School, averaged at least 20 points per game six times after being taken second in the 1967 NBA Draft. He was the NBA Rookie of the Year for the Baltimore Bullets. He later won the NBA Finals with the New York Knicks and was a four-time NBA All-Star.

Monroe’s number is retired by both the Washington Wizards and the Knicks.
