Clifford Omoruyi transferring: 5 possible landing spots

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (BVM) – Clifford Omoruyi has entered the transfer portal after four strong seasons at Rutgers where he emerged as one of the best centers in the Big Ten.

Omoruyi hails from Nigeria and moved to the United States at 14 years old to play basketball, becoming a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020 at Roselle Catholic High School. The 6-foot-11, 240-pound center decided to stay in New Jersey for his collegiate career, becoming Rutgers’ highest-rated recruit in a decade.

Omoruyi has since been an integral part of changing the culture at Rutgers as he helped the Scarlet Knights to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. He has become one of the top interior defenders in all of college basketball, earning a spot on the Big Ten all-defensive team the last two seasons while also earning second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023 as he averaged 13.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks.

Omoruyi’s scoring dipped a bit in 2023-24 as he averaged just 10.4 points, but the center continued to be a force on the boards and defensively as he averaged 8.3 rebounds and a career-best 2.9 blocks.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Omoruyi should be highly sought after in the transfer portal thanks to his size and elite defensive ability. Here are five teams Omoruyi could be playing for next season.
