Kellie Harper fired: 5 Tennessee WBB head coach candidates
Lindy La Rocque
La Rocque has quickly turned her UNLV Lady Rebels into a force in the Mountain West Conference, going 102-22 with three MWC regular season and tournament titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances and two MWC Coach of the Year honors for herself. The Las Vegas native has proven she knows how to win as a head coach and does have experience recruiting in the South, as a former assistant coach at Belmont in Nashville.
There are a few issues that will arise with La Rocque’s candidacy. The first is that she has yet to lead UNLV out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament. While that isn’t necessarily unexpected from a low-major program, the Lady Vols will likely want someone with some marquee wins under their belt. In addition, La Rocque may be happy to coach in her hometown even if it is at a lower level just because it is home and that’s something Tennessee couldn’t provide her. If the Lady Vols are willing to take the risk, La Rocque could be an up-and-coming coach ready to take off at a high-major program.
