Ranking the top 10 MLB players from the state of Oregon
5. Rick Wise, P
Wise hurled a no-hitter in 1971. Even better, he bashed two home runs in that contest, becoming the first pitcher to go yard in his own no-no.
That year was one of Wise’s two All-Star seasons — the other coming with St. Louis in ‘73. From 1967-73, he won at least 11 games on the mound six times. He’d win a career-high 19 with Boston in ‘75.
Wise was born in Jackson, Mich., and attended high school in Portland. He threw at least 200 innings in nine campaigns.
