Ranking the top 10 MLB players from the state of Oregon
4. Johnny Pesky, IF
Pesky got a bit of a late start to his major league career, joining Boston when he was 27.
He made an instant impact, leading the bigs with 205 hits as a rookie before serving in the military for three years during World War II. All told, Pesky turned in a .307 batting average and a .394 on-base percentage over a decade of play, spent mostly with the Red Sox.
He led the AL in hits twice more and scored at least 100 runs in six go-rounds.
