Mitch Marner on trade block?: 5 possible landing spots

Pittsburgh Penguins

The trade: The Penguins acquire Marner. The Maple Leafs acquire Pierre Olivier-Joseph, Brayden Yager and the Penguins’ 2025 first-round pick.

Penguins’ lead executive Kyle Dubas was aggressive last offseason with the acquisition of Erik Karllson, and even though they missed the postseason, he could have a similar strategy with an aging core. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Karllson are not getting younger, so Dubas could look for one more big splash in potentially the core’s final run. Marner is a player that Dubas is familiar with dating back to his days with the Maple Leafs.

Olivier-Joseph is the best young player on Pittsburgh’s roster and he could be an interesting player to use in this type of package. The 24-year-old had a strong finish to the season and he should be able to carve out a role in Toronto’s lineup with the chance to grow furthermore. Yager was the 14th overall pick a year ago and had 95 points in 57 games this season with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL.
