Ranking the top 10 Arizona Cardinals in franchise history
3. Charley Trippi, HB/QB/DB (1947-55)
In a select club, Trippi has a tremendous distinction. He’s the only Pro Football Hall of Famer to have 1,000 yards rushing, receiving, and passing in his career.
Obviously, with statistics as such, Trippi was a do-it-all player for the Cardinals, lining up at halfback, quarterback, returner, punter, and defensive back during his nine-year odyssey.
He was the difference when the Cardinals won their most recent league title. Wearing basketball shoes on an icy Comiskey Park field, Trippi totaled 206 yards — almost half of which came on punt returns — and a pair of scores.
Upon calling it quits after 1955, he ranked eighth in career rushing yards (3,506) and 17th in ground scores (23).
During his playing career with the Chicago Cardinals, Charley Trippi was an NFL Champion and considered a quintuple threat who could pass, catch, run, punt and play defense.
