Ranking each Big Ten starting QB for the 2024 football season
14. Cade McNamara, Iowa
McNamara is entering his fifth season of college football and hasn’t been able to stay healthy outside of the 2021 season where he threw for over 2,500 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 64.2% of his passes at Michigan. That might ultimately be the ceiling for the 6-foot-1 signal caller, but any added production under center will greatly help the Iowa offense provided McNamara returns to form coming off of an ACL tear.
13. Ethan Garbers, UCLA
Like multiple quarterbacks on this list, Garbers is a bit of an unknown but possesses a lot of upside heading into the fall which he displayed while filling in for Dante Moore last season as he threw for 1,136 yards and 11 touchdowns, completing 67.1% of his passes. There could ultimately be some growing pains while transitioning to the Big Ten for the 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior though due to the loss of Chip Kelly.
12. Max Brosmer, Minnesota
An argument can be made for Brosmer to be higher on this list as he has thrown for over 3,000 yards and at least 27 touchdowns while also completing at least 62% of his passes in each of his last two seasons at New Hampshire. How the 6-foot-2, second-team FCS All-American transitions to the higher-level competition of the Big Ten will be a big factor in his success, but he has the upside to help Minnesota surprise in 2024.
11. Alex Orji, Michigan
Orji could very well end the season as a top-10 quarterback in the Big Ten, but it’s hard to project exactly how he’ll perform for the Wolverines considering he has never attempted a college pass. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound signal caller looked sharp in the Wolverines’ spring game as he completed 13-of-18 passes for over 100 yards, and if he can pair a consistent arm with his rushing ability, Michigan might not have much of a dropoff following its national title.
