5 NHL stars who will be next for a major contract extension

Makar received a nice extension in July 2021, earning a six-year, $54-million contract, but that was still less than the public expected. The star defenseman can sign a new extension next July and he could be looking to max out his salary this time around. Makar should easily pass Erik Karlson’s $11.5-million AAV to make him the league’s highest-paid defenseman.
