Smith earns $129,848 as the head football coach and chief of athletics at Perry HS, whereas the average annual wage in the school district is $43,098. 

Smith, a longtime high school football coach, took the helm as head coach at Perry in 2017. He has since guided the Panthers to new beginnings, culminating in a 4A state title in 2023 (the first in program history).
