Ranking the 10 greatest Charlotte Hornets of all time
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BVM) – North Carolina has been home to two NBA franchises and plenty of elite basketball talent over the years. The Charlotte Hornets played their inaugural season in 1988 and remained in the state through the 2001-02 season before moving to Louisiana and becoming the New Orleans Hornets.
The city of Charlotte regained an NBA franchise in 2004 with the Bobcats, who played under that moniker through the 2013-14 season. The New Orleans Hornets changed their mascot to the Pelicans during that season, allowing Charlotte to use the Hornets as its mascot once again starting in the 2014-15 season.
Though the Charlotte Hornets’ first and second iterations are considered separate franchises, the current franchise claims the history of the first iteration before the move to New Orleans.
Only players who made an impact under the Charlotte Hornets’ name are eligible for this list. While players such as Gerald Wallace, Emeka Okafor and Raymond Felton made their mark on the city, they do not qualify as they solely played during the Bobcats era.
