Paul Goldschmidt’s free agency: 5 possible landing spots
ST. LOUIS (BVM) — Paul Goldschmidt is a seven-time MLB All-Star and a former MVP, earning the award during a career-best season in 2022. However, the 37-year-old has struggled since and posted career-low numbers at the plate in 2024.
While Goldschmidt was better in the second half for the St. Louis Cardinals, he hit just .245 overall with a .716 OPS. His 22 home runs were also his fewest in a full 162-game season since 2014, while his 173 strikeouts tied a career high.
Goldschmidt’s age and decline over the past couple of years may not make him the most attractive free agent on the market this offseason, but his prior resume, including four Gold Gloves and five Silver Slugger awards, speaks for itself. The first baseman will likely still garner looks from multiple teams seeking a power bat as he looks to return closer to his All-Star form.
Here are five landing spots for Goldschmidt in free agency.
