Paul Goldschmidt’s free agency: 5 possible landing spots

Seattle Mariners

Several of Goldschmidt’s suitors this offseason will likely be contenders that already have a strong lineup. The Mariners are in a different spot, but they could ultimately provide the 37-year-old with his best opportunity for a bounce-back season. Seattle was 12th in the big leagues in home runs this past season but was one of the worst-hitting MLB teams overall, ranking 29th with a .224 team batting average. Seattle also ranked just 22nd in OPS (.687). An aging Goldschmidt might not be the ultimate fix, but he can help bring more consistency to the lineup. Goldschmidt would also fill a potential need at first base in Seattle with Justin Turner likely leaving in free agency. Luke Raley remains an option at first base as well, but his struggles against left-handed pitching could lead Goldschmidt to see the field often.
