10 most impactful 2025 college football transfer portal moves
1. John Mateer to Oklahoma
Many talented quarterbacks have changed teams over the past several weeks and Mateer is arguably the most significant signal caller on the move. Oklahoma’s passing attack struggled in 2024 as former five-star recruit Jackson Arnold didn’t live up to the hype and freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. had a hard time when thrown into the fire. That led to the firing of offensive coordinator Seth Littrell midseason as the Sooners won just six games overall. Oklahoma hired Washington State offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle in early December and landed Mateer shortly after. Mateer thrived in Arbuckle’s system in 2024, throwing for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns while rushing for 826 yards and 15 scores. The 6-foot-1 signal caller has Heisman-winning upside heading into 2025 and could make the Sooners an SEC championship contender.
