Top 10 Houston Cougars basketball players of all time

6. Hakeem Olajuwon (1981-84)

An integral part of the Phi Slama Jama teams, Olajuwon led Houston to three NCAA Final Four and two national championship game appearances. A 7-foot center, Olajuwon is the only Cougar named the NCAA Tournament Regional Most Outstanding Player twice in 1983 and 1984. During the 1983-84 season, he led the NCAA in field goal percentage with 67.7% and rebounds per game with 13.5 — just the third player in NCAA history to do so. Olajuwon’s No. 34 jersey was retired in 1997.

Great game by 21-year old junior Hakeem Olajwuon in his 3rd year with Houston Cougars.

Olajuwon killed Santa Barbara with 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 block shots. This was one of his best games in Houston Cougars uniform.

Cougars won 89-79.
