Top 5 Ohio State offensive coordinator candidates for 2025

COLUMBUS, Ohio (BVM) – The Ohio State Buckeyes are in the market for a new offensive coordinator following Chip Kelly’s departure to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kelly’s return to the NFL as an offensive coordinator comes after just one season in the same role in Columbus where he helped lead a unit that ranked 30th in the nation in yards per game (429.4) and 14th in points per contest (35.7).

The situation is familiar territory for head coach Ryan Day. Last offseason, Day hired two new offensive coordinators as Bill O’Brien initially took the job but left just a few weeks later to become the head coach at Boston College. That led to Kelly’s hiring who had spent the previous six seasons as head coach at UCLA.

Kelly is the second Ohio State coordinator to leave within just two weeks of the Buckeyes winning the national championship, as former defensive coordinator Jim Knowles recently joined the Penn State Nittany Lions. Former offensive line coach Justin Frye has also left Columbus to take on the same role in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals.

With two of the top coordinator openings across college football, Day should have several intriguing options to help fill out his staff for 2025. Here are five Ohio State offensive coordinator candidates.
