McDermott has been at Creighton since 2010. While the 60-year-old could aim to finish his coaching career with the Bluejays, an opportunity to lead one of the Big Ten’s premier programs may be tough to pass up. McDermott would bring a lot of experience to Bloomington as his first collegiate head-coaching job came in 1994 at the Division II level at Wayne State in Nebraska. He eventually moved up to the Division I level at North Dakota State before seeing NCAA Tournament success at Northern Iowa and later coaching Iowa State. Since arriving at Creighton, the Bluejays have made the NCAA Tournament nine times and have won 20 or more games every season since 2014-15. The 2020 Big East Coach of the Year has regularly had some of the top offenses in college basketball and would be an intriguing fit in the Big Ten.
