4. Christy Mathewson, RHP, 1900-16
A dominant right-handed pitcher, Mathewson played 17 seasons for the Giants, all in New York at the Polo Grounds. He’s the Giants’ all-time leader in wins with 373, complete games with 433, strikeouts with 2,499, and shutouts with 79. Mathewson helped win the team’s first World Series championship in 1905. He was also inducted into the first Hall of Fame class in 1936, along with Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner. The Giants retired his jersey in 1986.
