Ranking the 10 greatest Los Angeles Angels of all time
3. Shohei Ohtani, DH, P (2018-23)
Ohtani is one of the shortest-tenured Angels on this list, but he made a significant impact and will likely go down as one of baseball’s all-time greats by the time all is said and done. After starring professionally in Japan for several years, Ohtani arrived in Los Angeles in 2018, immediately showing off his unique skill set as a power hitter and a talented pitcher. Ohtani was a three-time All-Star in an Angels uniform from 2021-23, hitting 46, 34 and 44 home runs in those seasons, respectively. Ohtani’s 171 home runs rank eighth in franchise history. Meanwhile, he won nine games or more on the mound in each of those campaigns with a career 3.01 ERA. The 2018 AL Rookie of the Year joined Mike Trout in 2023 as the only Angels players to win multiple MVP awards, as he also claimed the honor in 2021.
