Dayton women’s volleyball set to take on Towson in NCAA tourney

DAYTON, Ohio (BVM) — It has been a tremendous season for the Dayton Flyers women’s volleyball team, and now they have a chance to make a deep postseason run.

The Flyers will take on Towson in the opening round of this year’s NCAA volleyball tournament coming up on Wednesday, April 14. Towson was the Colonial Athletic Conference’s tournament winner this season, and will matchup with Dayton for the fourth time ever, seeking its first win against the Flyers.

For Dayton, it will be its 15th appearance in the tournament all-time, and comes on the heels of what has been a spectacular season.

Going 13-1 overall this season and 8-1 in the Atlantic-10, the Flyers won the conference’s regular season title by one game over VCU. They have been led throughout the year by 6-foot-4 redshirt junior Jamie Peterson, who has averaged 4.33 kills per set and a .316 hitting percentage. Peterson also earned the conference’s most outstanding player honor.

After losing their first contest of the season, the Flyers rattled off 11 consecutive wins coming into the A-10 conference tournament, and they kept the momentum going.

In the semifinals against Fordham, Dayton cruised to a 3-0 win which gave the Flyers the opportunity to win their third consecutive conference championship and 14th overall. They would do just that in what was another dominating 3-0 performance against VCU.

It is clear that there was no match for Dayton within the A-10, and it will be interesting to see just how far this talented team can go next week in the tournament.
