Oldest coaches to win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament

(BVM) – They say with age comes wisdom. In the case of University of Miami men’s basketball head coach Jim Larranaga, this saying is true. At the age of 73, Larranaga has led the Hurricanes into unseen territory as his unit advanced to the first Final Four in program history.

Of course, Larranaga is no stranger to the semifinal round of the NCAA Tournament. In 2006, the head coach led his George Mason Patriots team to the Final Four as well, however, that was 17 years ago. Over those 17 seasons, Larranaga has grown his understanding of basketball, his program and even of March Madness itself and it shows with his 5-seed Miami squad knocking off numerous perennial powers to do so.

Now, the 73-year-old will look to become the oldest head coach to ever hoist the NCAA men’s basketball national championship. If successful, Larranaga will join a group filled with some of college basketball’s biggest legends. Here are the 10 oldest head coaches to win NCAA men’s basketball championships.
