Andre Curbelo enters transfer portal; 5 possible landing spots
NEW YORK CITY (BVM) – For a second consecutive offseason, St. John’s point guard Andre Curbelo finds himself in the NCAA transfer portal. While Curbelo enjoyed an uptick in many of his season averages from a year ago, a new home could be in the cards for the New York native.

The decision comes on the heels of the Red Storm basketball program landing head coach Rick Pitino to lead the team for the foreseeable future. While finishing 18-15 on the season, St. John’s missed the NCAA Tournament for a fourth straight season under head coach Mike Anderson. Curbelo averaged 9.6 points and 4.3 assists during his first season with the team and had played a career-high 27.3 minutes per game.
While Curbelo found solid success during his junior campaign, the former top-50 recruit will be onto his third team following his past transfer from Illinois. Curbelo had been labeled the future of the guard position for the Illini after averaging 9.1 points, 4.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in his freshman season. An inability to stay on the floor due to injuries changed the dynamic his second year, leading to a split from the program.
After a return to his home state in 2022-23, Curbelo finds himself back in the portal. As he sorts through interested teams, here’s a look at five candidates that may make sense.
