Top 10 Kentucky HS football players in Class of 2023

LEXINGTON, Ky. (BVM) – When looking at Kentucky’s premier high school football players in the Class of 2023, it quickly becomes clear that there is a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball. In fact, half of the state’s senior prospects are defensive linemen. Who will emerge as the head of the class?

10. Dakota Patterson, WR, Boyle County

The 6-foot-3 wideout has shown tantalizing talent. Yet unfortunately, he sustained a serious knee injury several weeks ago, then had surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus. Patterson left Corbin and enrolled at Boyle County as a senior. The University of Kentucky is reported to be first on his list of schools.

9. Ty Bryant, S, Frederick Douglass

The three-star safety earned second-team all-state recognition as a sophomore. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Bryant still has plenty of potential to grow as a player. He accepted an offer from Kentucky in June. His dad Cisco played wide receiver for the Wildcats. Ty carries on the tradition.

8. Oryend Fisher, DE, Great Crossing

Fisher recorded 84 tackles and 11.5 sacks over his junior campaign. The 6-foot-6, 205-pound weakside pass rusher is a nightmare to deal with. He reportedly runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, which is an exceptional time for his position. West Virginia University is thought to be his most likely landing spot.

7. Saadiq Clements, DL, Henderson County

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Clements is a difference maker on defense. He got selected for Second Team All-State by the AP in 2021. Clements becomes part of the Purdue Boilermakers’ defensive front in 2023.

6. Tommy Ziesmer, DL/TE, Boyle County

Ziesmer made a huge impact in 2021. The senior edge rusher recorded 61 tackles with 10 sacks and five forced fumbles. At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, he also slots in at tight end. He revealed his plans to play for Kentucky in May.

5. Jamarrion Harkless, DL, Frederick Douglass

The 6-4, 290-pounder may be deemed disruptive. Harkless ended his junior season with nine tackles for loss. He was wooed by leading NCAA programs such as Georgia, Louisville and Michigan. He finally picked the University of Illinois.

4. Kaden Moorman, RB, Franklin County

Moorman posted impressive stats his junior season. He recorded 177 rushes and tallied 1,447 yards along with 27 TDs. Plus, he caught 18 passes for a total of 211 yards receiving with two TDs. As a result, he earned second-team all-state honors. Once he graduates, Moorman will go to Lexington to join the Kentucky Wildcats.

3. Cristian Conyer, DB/WR, South Warren

The South Warren star shines on both sides of the line. Conyer stars at wide receiver and he doubles as a defensive back. The 6-foot-2 senior will suit up in orange and white for the University of Tennessee next fall.

2. Antonio Robinson Jr., CB, Highlands

The four-star recruit just arrived at Highlands from Miami’s Florida Christian High School. He is the son of ex-NFL wide receiver Antonio Robinson. Antonio Jr. has committed to Wake Forest.

1. Micah Carter, DE, Louisville St. Xavier

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Carter returns after being out all but one game last fall because of a knee injury. The four-star defensive end was courted by a bunch of big-name Division I teams. He announced his commitment to Purdue in June.
