Gary Argueta and Johnny Larios, two resource officers at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., noticed there was a communication problem with the school’s large population of foreign language students and the officers. To try and connect to more kids, the officers formed the Athletico soccer club and are beginning to see the fruits of their labor both on and off the pitch.

Matt Kreitz, the public address announcer at Massaponax High School, was named the recipient of the 2019 Bob Sheppard P.A. Announcer of the Year for high schools by the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers. A 17-year announcing veteran, Kreitz has announced for a number of Massaponax Panthers programs including football, baseball, wrestling and boys and girls basketball.

As the activity began to gain momentum heading into its spring season, COVID-19 restrictions halted much of the forward progress.
