Toledo’s men’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant season going into February

TOLEDO, Ohio (BVM) — Even though Toledo’s five-game winning streak was snapped this past Saturday by Ball State, they still have the best record in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

After losing three starters last year, Toledo so far has produced a 16-5 record (11-2 in MAC) with the help of senior guards Marreon Jackson and Spencer Littleson.

The Rockets have welcomed seven newcomers to help fill out the roster which include freshman Ryan Rollins, and juniors, Setric Millner Jr., and JT Shumate, to fill out their starting lineup.

Everyone in Toledo’s starting-five is averaging double digit points (Jackson 16.7), (Rollins 13.7), (Littleson 13.2), (Millner Jr. 12.6) and (Shumate 12.5).

Early on in the season, they lost sophomore AJ Edu due to a partially torn meniscus which caused Toledo to run a smaller lineup than usual.

It has been effective so far in the season due to their high powered offense averaging a league best 80.6 points per game.

They are shooting 38.2% from three (1st in MAC) and they get it done at the free throw line, shooting 77.8% as a team.

Littleson leads the team in three-point percentage at 48.0% and has also had two games this season where he has made eight treys.

It’s no secret that Toledo relies heavily on the three ball to generate their points because they are tied for fifth in the country for three pointers made per game at 10.7.

The Rockets strung together an eightgame win streak after starting the season 3-3, and a fivegame win streak from Jan. 19 to Feb. 2.

This is the Rockets best start to a season since the 1979-80 campaign where they would go on to win the MAC championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

The Rockets have made it to the championship round of the MAC Tournament a total of six times (2 times under current head coach Tod Kowalczyk) with 1980 being their only win.
