Top 10 Wisconsin Badgers running backs of all time
7. Anthony Davis (2001-2004)
Davis is one of several New Jersey natives on this list who had a spectacular career playing in Madison. As a freshman in 2001, Davis became an immediate star in Barry Alvarez’s offense, rushing 291 times for 1,466 yards and 11 touchdowns while earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. He bettered those numbers as a sophomore in 2002 with 1,555 yards and 13 scores as a second-team All-Big Ten performer. While various injuries would hamper Davis’ final two seasons at Wisconsin a bit, he still ran for 1,655 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging over five yards per carry across the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Davis’ play earned him a chance in the NFL after he was selected in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Davis would finish his pro career in the CFL, but his college legacy lives on, as his 4,676 career rushing yards still rank fifth all time in Wisconsin history, while his 42 rushing touchdowns are the program’s seventh-best mark.
