The 7 NFL head coaches traded since the 1970 merger
Bill Parcells, New England Patriots to New York Jets
In the less famous Patriots–Jets coaching trade, New England moved Parcells to New York in exchange for 1997 third-round and fourth-round picks, a 1998 second-round pick and a 1999 first-round pick.
This deal came about because of Pacells’s dislike of new Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Parcells left New England after the 1996 season, but his contract would not allow him to leave the team to coach elsewhere so this was the resolution the two sides came to with the help of commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
Parcells went 29-19 with the Jets while making it to the playoffs in 1998, going 1-1 in the postseason.
