Teams with the most NCAA Tournament wins of all time
T-8. Syracuse Orange and Michigan State Spartans (70 wins)
Regardless of having the fewest combined Final Four appearances (6) and championships (1 in 2003) among this list, the Orange have managed a 70-41 record in the NCAA Tournament. They’ve averaged 1.7 wins per appearance to cement their name into one of the winningest programs in tournament history. The Orange may not have made the 2023 NCAA Tournament, but head coach Jim Boeheim was still the No. 1 active coach this season with the most wins in tournament history. Now, with his retirement, the team’s future in the top 10 lies in the hands of Adrian Autry.

The Michigan State Spartans are known for being the most successful NCAA Tournament team in the Big Ten. In 35 appearances, they’ve seen 10 Final Four appearances and two championships (1979 and 2000). They’ve had the fewest tournament appearances of any program on this list with 35, but their winning percentage keeps them at bay – averaging a solid two wins per appearance. Michigan State’s 70-34 record so far could change since the program is still alive heading into the Sweet 16 for March Madness 2023. Winning that round would mean they’d break away from their tie with the Orange.
