Top 10 Virginia QBs for 2023 high school football season
10. Austin Mawyer, Jr., Liberty
Mawyer may not be a glamorous name among scouts in the region but that didn’t stop the signal caller from making his presence known as only a sophomore last year. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound quarterback improved tremendously over his freshman season, throwing for 2,575 yards, 32 touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing for 630 yards and five more scores. His 3,205 total yards were the fifth-most in Virginia last year, according to MaxPreps.
Unfortunately, Mawyer’s individual success didn’t translate into many team wins for the Eagles as the team finished just 4-6 and missed the postseason. Mawyer also hasn’t received much buzz in recruiting circles just yet, but given another successful statistical season that could change as he has made his way to a couple of camps at Liberty and Wake Forest.
