4. Alex Smith (2013-17)

Prior to the Chiefs’ modern dominance, Smith was the first Kansas City quarterback to find success under center for head coach Andy Reid. Smith threw for 17,608 yards, 102 touchdowns and just 33 interceptions while leading the Chiefs to a 50-26 record and four playoff appearances during his five years in Kansas City. Individually, Smith racked up back-to-back Pro Bowl honors in 2016 and 2017.

However, Smith lacked success in the postseason as he went just 1-4 in the playoffs despite being the higher seed in two of those losses. This ended up being the nail in the coffin for Smith as his heir apparent, Mahomes, took over under center in 2018.
