Ranking the top 10 games of the Red River Rivalry
10. 2004: No. 2 Oklahoma 12, No. 5 Texas 0
The 2022 version of the Red River Rivalry won 49-0 by Texas featured the first time that a team was shutout in the series since this 2004 contest. For the third time in four years, both teams came into the game ranked in the top five at 4-0. Defense would rule in this one, as the 12-0 margin became the lowest scoring game in Big 12 history. However, it is remembered fondly by Sooners fans as a breakout game for a young Adrian Peterson who ran for 225 yards against the Texas defense. Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s defense was able to shut down Texas quarterback Vince Young for seemingly the last time of his collegiate career. Young and the Longhorns went on to win their next 20 games including the 2005 national championship over USC, while Bob Stoops’ Sooners failed to beat the same Trojans team in the 2004 national championship game.
