The Red Sox will be prioritizing pitching this offseason and that comes straight from the horse’s mouth as new general manager Craig Breslow stated in his introductory press conference. Breslow knows a thing or two about pitching as well as a 12-year-pitching veteran and former director of pitching for the Chicago Cubs. He was also able to see a lot of what a healthy Woodruff could bring to a team as he was part of the Cubs organization for four years.

Though the Red Sox will need immediate help in their rotation, Woodruff could be a good stash piece as Breslow reshapes the roster in his image. If he believes Woodruff could return to his old form following his surgery, don’t be surprised if Breslow makes a move for the veteran in hopes of stealing an ace for a low price.
