NHL players who went from millionaires to bankruptcy
Bryan Trottier
The six-time Stanley Cup champion made over $10 million between the 1975 to 1993 seasons. He filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy while he was the Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach in 1994.
Trottier cited debts of about $9.5 million against assets of just $141,629, according to the New York Times. He went broke because of a failed ice rink business. His financial woes even drove him to consider taking his own life.
Today, Trottier’s net worth is estimated at $5 million. The 67-year-old is currently working as a TV analyst for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
