10 drivers who could win 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship
10. Martin Truex Jr.
Truex Jr. is one of the oldest drivers in the Cup Series and contemplated retirement following a difficult, winless 2022 season. However, the 43-year-old bounced back in 2023, earning three of his 34 career Cup Series victories at Dover, Sonoma and New Hampshire, while also taking the checkered flag in the Clash at the Coliseum. The wins helped Truex Jr. become the regular season Cup Series winner, but he faltered down the stretch with just two top 10s in his final 11 races, leading to an 11th-place finish overall. The slow end to last season could be a cause for concern, but the driver of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota still seems poised for another strong year in 2024 where he could make a run at his second Cup Series title. Truex Jr. has also finished as the championship runner-up in three of the last six seasons.
