Zeke Mayo enters transfer portal: 5 possible landing spots

BROOKINGS, S.D. (BVM) – Zeke Mayo has been one of the best mid-major scorers in college basketball over the last couple of years but will soon begin a new chapter in his career. The talented 6-foot-4 South Dakota State guard recently declared for the NBA draft, but he has also maintained his college eligibility and entered his name into the transfer portal.

Mayo starred at Lawrence High School in Kansas but was lightly recruited as he received multiple low-level Division I offers. The talented guard went on to make an immediate impact at the collegiate level, putting up nearly 10 points per game while helping lead South Dakota State to the NCAA Tournament as a freshman.

Following an impressive sophomore season where he averaged over 18 points, Mayo led the Jackrabbits back to the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24 as the Summit League Player of the Year. On the season, Mayo averaged a career-best 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists, shooting 46.6% from the field, 39.1% from 3-point range and 82.8% from the free-throw line.

Mayo showcased his talent under the bright lights of the NCAA Tournament this season as well, scoring 19 points while shooting 4-of-6 from deep in South Dakota State’s first-round loss to Iowa State.

As an elite scorer with impressive shot-making ability, Mayo is likely to make a move to a high-major program if he remains in college for another year. Here are five potential landing spots for the talented guard.
