Ranking the top 5 AL, NL Cy Young candidates for 2024
AL
5. Corbin Burnes, Baltimore Orioles
In February, the Orioles acquired Burnes in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers to be the team’s ace. He won the Cy Young Award in 2021 when he led the MLB with a 2.43 ERA in 167 innings. In 2023, Burnes had fewer strikeouts and more walks than the previous two seasons but still led the NL in WHIP. Now, Burnes has the opportunity to be the first Oriole to win the award since Steve Stone in 1980 and the eighth pitcher ever to win in both the AL and NL.
