Pete Alonso to be shopped?: 5 possible landing spots

The trade: The Mariners acquire Alonso and Adam Ottavino. The Mets acquire Tai Peete, Teddy McGraw and Marcelo Perez.

Tyler Locklear has had a fantastic season with the Tacoma Rainiers, getting on base at a .402 clip, while slugging .514. There is reason to believe the Mariners call him up before they make a blockbuster deal for a first baseman. Maybe the best-case scenario is doing both. Alonso would not cost a ton considering his contract situation and it would ease the pressure off of Locklear as he adjusts to life in the major leagues. This could potentially add two huge bats to the clubhouse. Ottavino might help, but his ERA is 5.96 in 2024. It would not hurt to take a chance on him.

The Mariners’ prospect pool is looking strong, perhaps making them more aggressive in moving players who are not in the top tier of their system. Peete, The 30th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, could be an interesting piece to dangle. He is a supreme athlete, but there are still some questions about the bat. He has primarily played shortstop for the Modesto Nuts, but he has the ability to play wherever. McGraw was a third-round pick last year, but he has yet to pitch for the organization due to injury. Perez, the franchise’s No. 25 prospect, continues to start games in High-A, but he may profile better as a reliever.
