Mitch Marner on trade block?: 5 possible landing spots

The trade: The Golden Knights acquire Marner. The Maple Leafs acquire William Karlsson, Logan Thompson, Lukas Cormier and the Golden Knights’ 2025 second-round pick.

The Golden Knights’ cap situation has been a hot talking point, but Kelly McCrimmon and George McPhee have done a fantastic job managing it. They would have to continue to pull off more moves to make room for Marner, but it would not be out of the question considering how aggressive they were at the trade deadline. He would be a massive addition to their top six and power play unit.

The Maple Leafs are still contenders so it is safe to assume they would like some players who can contribute now. Karlsson is not at the level that he once was, but the 31-year-old still produced 60 points in 70 games this season with good defense. Thompson, 26, would be capable of starting a bulk of games for Toronto in net as Ilya Samsonov enters free agency. Cormier is one of Vegas’ top prospects, albeit in a weak system, but he still brings upside.
