Nikolaj Ehlers on the move?: 5 possible landing spots
Washington Capitals
The trade: The Capitals acquire Ehlers. The Jets acquire Alexander Alexeyev and the No. 17 overall pick.
The Capitals have one of the oldest teams in the league and they will likely look for a boost in potentially one of their final runs with this core. Ehlers is a player who could be a key contributor while also not having to give up a staggering package. A goalscorer should be near the top of their wish list and Ehlers has scored over 20 goals in seven of his nine seasons.
Alexeyev, a first-round pick in 2018, still has potential at 24 years old. The Russian blueliner played in 39 games and only picked up three points, but there is still hope that he can develop into a top-four defenseman. He could receive minutes with the Jets, but a high draft pick would be needed as well to complete the deal.
