5 teams who could trade for Cody Bellinger if Cubs sell
New York Yankees
The trade: The Yankees acquire Bellinger. The Cubs acquire Will Warren and Benjamin Cowles.
The Yankees’ lineup has been hit-or-miss this season outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Bellinger, whose father played for New York, would be a great fit for a team that needs another bat. His left-handed swing would play well in Yankee Stadium. Bellinger would bring plenty of big-game experience to a team that surprisingly does not have a lot, especially compared to their historical norms.
Warren had back-to-back good seasons in the Yankees’ organization after being an eighth-round pick in 2021, but he has had a rough go of it in 2024. He has a 7.05 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP in 16 AAA starts. That being said, he is still one of New York’s top pitching prospects and projects to be a major-league starter. Cowles was selected a couple of rounds after Warren and he has had a good minor-league career thus far. He is hitting .289 in AA this season with a .456 slugging percentage. He could have a future of being a versatile big-league infielder.
