5 teams who could trade for Cody Bellinger if Cubs sell

The trade: The Mariners acquire Bellinger. The Cubs acquire Jonny Farmelo.

The Mariners’ offense has not been great in 2024, and it will be a major need for president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto to address at the trade deadline. Julio Rodriguez has been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this season after placing fourth in the AL MVP voting in 2023. He has a .632 OPS this year. Bellinger would obviously not replace Rodriguez in the every-day lineup, but the point being that their stars are not producing. Bellinger could play first base or a corner outfield spot.

The Cubs pulled off a trade three years ago that sent Javy Baez and Trevor Williams to the New York Mets for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong who had suffered a major injury. They could look to do something similar in a Bellinger trade. Farmelo, who tore his ACL in June, is highly-regarded in Seattle’s farm system and he has a similar profile to Crow-Armstrong. The 19-year-old outfielder could be an elite defender and he had a .819 OPS in 46 A-ball games before getting hurt.
