5 teams who could trade for Cody Bellinger if Cubs sell
San Francisco Giants
The trade: The Giants acquire Bellinger. The Cubs acquire Rayner Arias and Josh Bostick.
The Giants were a major player in Bellinger’s free agency this offseason, so there is reason to believe they will revisit the possibility of acquiring him. Jung Hoo-Lee, who they spent $113 million on, struggled through 37 games, before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. San Francisco is three games out of a wild-card spot and lead executive Farhan Zaidi needs to be aggressive if he wants to save his job.
Arias would be a great acquisition for the Cubs if they can pull this off. The 18-year-old signed with the Giants as an international free agent for $2.7 million in 2023, the second-largest contract for an international free agent in franchise history behind Lucius Fox. He is a 6-foot-2 slugger who could have a chance to stick in center field. Bostick is 6-foot-4 and can touch 100 mph. He has started 15 games this season in San Francisco’s system, but he might be better suited in a bullpen role.
