10 breakout performers from the 2024 NBA Summer League
DJ Steward, Chicago Bulls
Steward was a highly-touted five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American as a high schooler in Chicago. He went undrafted in 2021 after one season at Duke and has bounced around in the G-League for a bit with the Stockton Kings and Maine Celtics. However, at just 22 years old, Steward still possesses a lot of upside and that was on full display during summer league play. Across five games, the 6-foot-2 guard averaged 17.4 points, 6.3 assists and three rebounds, demonstrating plenty of playmaking ability on offense. Steward also grabbed 1.2 steals per game defensively and shot 40% from deep. The Duke product’s best game came in a 37-point outing against the Hawks, and that led his hometown Bulls to sign him to a two-way contract just days later which may allow him to see playing time with the team in 2024-25.
